Angela de la Cruz: Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas, 2017

Angela de la Cruz has been awarded the prestigious 2017 Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

The jury selected her as the winner for the “intensity of her work, which explores the complex relationship between the illusionist space of the painting and the physical presence of the sculpture.”

In response to her award and the jury’s comments, De la Cruz responded: “My work is very honest. I have very strong beliefs and sometimes these can be read as radical...I am mostly interested in developing my [artistic] language and that’s what I’m doing constantly."
