Más acá de lo (ir)real
This spring, Villa Bernasconi invites the helvetropicos platform, which brings together artists living in Switzerland who have a deep connection with Latin America. Helvetropicos explores contemporary forms of mestizajes as hybrid identities that emerge from the encounter between different visions and systems of knowledge.
Más acá de lo (ir)real is based on the idea that what we consider ‘real’ never has a fixed existence, but is instead shaped through historical processes that remain in constant tension. The exhibition brings together fifteen artists and as many perspectives, sensibilities, influences, poetics, distinct imaginaries and emotional shifts linked to a Latin American genealogy.
From sound and video installations on metamorphosis to sculptures that speak of care and the transmission of rituals, from drawings and paintings that crystallise memory to anti-monuments conceived from feminist or queer perspectives, the exhibition invites us to rethink images and the ways in which they help us build connections: to sing reality, to dance it, and to strike it so that it may vibrate differently.
