Press Release

What happens when an art storage is relocated?

The relocation of Claudia & Julia Müller's storage offers a unique opportunity to explore works spanning several decades. The exhibition brings together large-scale drawings, fine ballpoint pen drawings and objects that engage with recurring themes such as family, friendship, and kinship. Through their layered visual worlds and juxtapositions, the artists develop a visual language that negotiates questions of care, hatred, affection, and distance within the context of our interconnected system, shedding light on their implications.

Their artistic practice engages a wide range of materials, focusing on drawing and installation. Often, they combine large-scale figurative wall paintings or drawings with everyday objects such as curtains, lamps or ceramics. By enlarging and shifting the context of these familiar subjects, they explore the need for intimacy and privacy—particularly in relation to the social and media-oriented challenges of our society.

The exhibition reaches back to the 1990s and includes works such as Hingabe (Love and Devotion), a preparatory drawing for a wall painting in the exhibition Freie Sicht aufs Mittelmeer (Kunsthaus Zürich, curated by Bice Curiger, 1998), as well as the monumental Human Maps, which depict a rich network of patterns and relationships surrounding a fictional character.
