Claudia & Julia Müller live and work in Basel and Berlin. They have worked collectively since 1991, making mixed media works in a wide range of materials with a particular emphasis on drawings and installations combined with objects. Early works such as “Enzyklopädie der Freundschaft” outline aspects in the intimate, personal environment. Over time, their work has turned its focus towards a response to societal phenomena and current affairs. Psychological studies, cultural behavior, body language, adolescence, human interactions and social estrangement are among their research topics forming the foundation of their drawings. Through immersive installations, they juxtapose the multilayered narratives of wall paintings with domestic, handcrafted objects in textiles, ceramics, and wooden furniture. Lately, they have been contemplating on the concept of trust as a form of currency in our progressively interlinked world.
